ALEX Salmond is to meet Gordon Brown for the fi rst time in almost a year to discuss the worsening recession, it was announced last night .

The first minister and the prime minister will meet at an economic summit in London, arranged by Downing Street. The leaders of the devolved Welsh and Northern Ireland assemblies will also attend the meeting, which will be held in the last week of this month.
