It was all going so swimmingly. Throughout the week Castle Stuart, the new home of the Barclays Scottish Open, had been showered with praise from players, pundits and spectators alike. The plaudits had rained down on this majestic piece of Moray Firth linksland. Yesterday, Mother Nature added her voice to proceedings and unleashed the kind of Biblical downpours that would have had Noah scampering for the sanctuary of his floating zoo. All the enthusiasm had been well and truly drookit.

The entire site was closed to the public early in the morning for the obvious safety reasons but the hardy members of the press, a reckless, carefree bunch, were allowed to plough on, although they were advised to "proceed with caution".
