HIGHER intakes of nicotine among Scots smokers could help to explain the country's appalling record on tobaccorelated disease, says a leading expert.

Professor Martin Jarvis, chair of the UK government's technical advisory group on tobacco and health, said that research has shown Scots smokers take in up to 15-per cent more nicotine than their counterparts in England.
