THE ice-cathedral atmospherics of Iceland's Sigur Ros have provided a multi-fi t soundtrack for everything from feature fi lm Vanilla Sky to the BBC's series Planet Earth. Those ethereal qualities are still in evidence on Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust - especially on nine-minute-long Ara Batur, which builds from gentle piano chords and singer Jonsi Birgisson's crystal-clear falsetto to a transcendental 90-person wall of sound However, with choppier changes of pace and mood than on previous releases, Ara Batur and the equally epic Festival threaten to overwhelm everything Sigur Ros now seem content to leave experimental arrangements to Portishead and Radiohead, treading instead into Flaming Lips territory with a handful of hand-clappy tracks including opener Gobbledigook. The folky feel of Godan Daginn stops just short of Clannad although, talking of soundtracks, it will nestle perfectly into the landscapes around Inverary Castle when the band play Hydro ConnectSee the full content of this document
