WHILE BSkyB makes hay out of its free broadband launch, it has avoided disaster with its high-definition television boxes. As reported in the Sunday Herald several weeks ago, communication problems between an estimated 30-per cent of boxes and at least half a dozen brands of HD televisions raised the prospect of about 100,000 boxes being recalled.
BSkyB denied there was any problem, but manufacturers were far less sanguine, and said HD had been rushed out to cash in on the World Cup. But in the end, the industry appears to have solved most problems with software upgrades.
