Watsonians trotted out on to the Philiphaugh pitch almost five minutes before Selkirk joined them, but the Edinburgh side lagged behind their Borders opponents in almost every other regard. Most critically, they trailed them at the finish on the scoreboard, a result that makes it more and more likely that Myreside will not be playing host to top-tier rugby next season.
You could dissect the Watsonians performance to the nth degree, but their most serious failing was simply that they lacked the wit and sharpness to make more of the opportunities that came their way.
