BRIAN McBride is quietly pleased. The Scot who became managing director of T-Mobile seven months ago believes that the mobile communications business is making some good connections.

It was announced on Thursday as part of parent company Deutsche Telekom's first-quarter results that T-Mobile has added 700,000 new customers in the first quarter of 2004. This takes the total number of customers to 14.3 million, up more than 5% since the end of last year and more than 17% since the first quarter of 2003.
