THERE was such a wide cover of low-level snow that I had some difficulty parking the car in the layby near Luiblea. Usually I have to dig the thing "out" of the snow, but on this occasion I had to dig it "in", just to get it off the road.

I had planned a comparatively lowlevel hill walk - up towards the bealach at the head of the Allt Coire Pitridh in the Ardverikie Forest to where a path runs north between the Munros of Creag Pitridh and Geal Charn and then downhill towards the lovely Lochan na h-Earba from where it's an easy stroll back to Luiblea. It's not a desperately difficult walk - about 12 miles - but the deep snow had made me reconsider my plans a little.
