PERHAPS Gavin Strachan has finally grown sick of his father making all the headlines in the family. While the Celtic manager expands his assortment of withering putdowns and cultivates his image as the bane of the journalistic fraternity, there is a delicious irony in the revelation that his eldest son is currently well on his way to joining the fourth estate. It may not exactly be up there with FrostNixon but Strachan-Strachan might just be an interview worth watching.

In addition to continuing a solid if unspectacular playing career as a midfielder in the middle reaches of League Two with Notts County, the 30-year-old is in the second and fi nal year of a degree in sports journalism at Staffordshire University and in the last few months has been composing an eminently readable weekly BBC blog on the lot of a lower league footballer.
