DON'T you just loathe New Year resolutions? All those gym memberships to fill in, all those relatives to visit more often, all those one-last-fags. Far better, I think, to look back over the things you regret doing in the previous year and solemnly swear never to do them again. Nothing so vague, mind, as saying to yourself, "This will be a year of fewer cream cakes"; I'm talking about a very specific plan to avoid the pitfalls of the previous 12 months, put simply, to learn from one's mistakes.
