Dominance has become a threat to Rangers. The Ibrox side's lead at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League is so sizable that it leaves room for negligence. Only a curmudgeon would bemoan the advantage, but wariness is now an obligation for Walter Smith and his players.

There was an outburst of emotion at the end of last weekend's Old Firm game at Ibrox. A winning goal in injury time is always provocative, but the response was an indication of significance. The 1-0 victory over Celtic felt momentous, as it extended Rangers' lead to 10 points with a game in hand still to play.
