Summary
TAGGART has returned. Why? The received wisdom among TV folk is that the latest incarnation of Taggart, Alex Norton, can act, in comparison to that late, great piece of plywood, Mark McManus (pictured above), who couldnae.
I'm not so sure. At least Mr McManus had a certain, gritty je ne sais crois. Mr Norton, meanwhile, just is. I suspect he - i. e. his character - may be suffering from catatonia, but that's just a hunch. You'd need to do tests to be sure. The latest episode ran the gamut of cliches and the killer couldn't have been more obvious had they been carrying a sign saying they'd done it. The plot was a homage to Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep. Mr Chandler is doubtless birlin' in his grave.See the full content of this document
