WAYNE Rooney ended his five-month scoring drought as his first- half penalty kick paved the way for a convincing Manchester United win at Old Trafford, but his manager Sir Alex Ferguson was at pains to stress that this was a fine all-round team performance.

The barrel-chested striker's 33rd minutepenalty, after Jonathan Spector had fouled Ryan Giggs, is unlikely to end up on his showreel, but it may go some way to easing the 24-year-old back to form.
