THE case for a Scottish Six is now overwhelming. The research by Dr Douglas MacMillan at Aberdeen University (News, October 16) only confirmed what we already knew in Scotland - that British news broadcasts are essentially English broadcasts.

The UK news gives people who live in England a mix of domestic and international news, prioritised according to an English perspective, whilst denying this to viewers in Scotland. A Scottish Six would redress this imbalance, and give Scots the same level of control over how they view what is going on in the world around them.

IT seems to me the only time Scotland hits the London BBC news is when there has been a sighting of the Loch Ness Monster or of Prince Charles in a kilt.

Of course we should have a Scottish Six - we have plenty of talented Scottish journalists and presenters and it is such a pleasure to hear our own accents for a change.
