Summary
I'M not sure what is more annoying about The Economist magazine's view of Scotland - the article itself or the fact that we get annoyed about it. It was an impressionistic account by someone whose impressions seem to have been largely acquired on the grouse moors. But Johnny Grimond's words have been recycled all over the Scottish media. Indeed, here am I contributing to the hype.
For those without the benefit of the latest Economist cover story "A Lament for Scotland", Mr Grimond, son of the late Liberal leader Jo, believes that, since devolution, "Scotland has regressed into an inward-looking, slightly chip-onthe-shoulder, slightly Anglophobic country with no clear sense of direction". We are dependent on hand- outs from England and run by "numpties" bred in brain-dead Scottish councils.See the full content of this document
