Scottish Troops Exposed to Cancer Chemical in Iraq

Summary


HUNDREDS of Scottish army volunteers have been warned they may have been exposed to deadly carcinogenic chemicals while on duty in Iraq.

The troops have been sent a memo telling them they may have been breathing in a compound called hexavalent chromium while guarding a water treatment plant in Basra during Operation Telic. Medical studies suggest exposure can cause "alteration of genetic material, lung cancer and death".
