PLAY-OFF finals are important enough without having your entire future resting on them. Scott Boyd, pictured right outjumping Inverness Caley Thistle, is a strapping central defender who turned 20 last week. He has impressed while onloan at Partick Thistle since January to the extent that newly relegated Livingston boss John Robertson is keen for him to extend his contract when it expires this summer and help them back out of the First Division.

The only problem with all this is that Boyd has enjoyed his new start in front of the big crowds at Firhill and may yet prefer an offer to stay in Maryhill, particularly if they, too, are playing in the same division next season. Boyd is as torn between the geography of east and west as his hometown of Whitburn.
