WHEN funnyman Ricky Gervais got together with colleagues Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington to record several 30-minute podcasts, little did they know their collected ramblings would become the most popular podcast ever. More than eight million downloads and a place in The Guinness Book Of Records later, Gervais has become an unlikely poster boy for this new way to communicate.

Podcasting is essentially a mini radio show that you can download onto an mp3 player and is fast becoming one of the most popular ways to listen to interviews or music online. Now a youth group from Broxburn, West Lothian, have proved that the humble podcast can be used to tackle big issues such as mental health and have just won a national competition for their efforts.
