IT'S official. Noel Whelan has left his wild days behind him - these days you always find him in the kitchen at parties. Some of the energies that the Aberdeen striker used for excessive and laddish behaviour while breaking into the big time at Leeds United and Coventry are now more fruitfully expended as an enthusiastic and adventurous, if somewhat self-trained, chef.
His career at his currently high-flying new club may already be cooking with gas, but the one thing missing so far from his move to the North East is his own home, complete with stove and chopping board. "I like to stay in and do a bit of cooking these days," he said. "I wouldn't say I'm a chef yet, but I've got my dabbling, even though I'm not always sure what it is going to turn out like.
